Pushing the Limits of HP45 (TIJ) Technology
The Challenge
In industrial coding—printing batch numbers, expiration dates, and barcodes—reliability is the only metric that matters. Many systems based on HP45 (Thermal Inkjet) technology operate in harsh factory environments where the printheads are often mounted without any capping system (the mechanical seal that protects nozzles during idle time).
We encountered clients with extreme operational requirements: they needed the printer to deliver a perfect “first-print-out” after prolonged line stoppages—stretching from several days to an entire week of inactivity—without any manual cleaning, purging, or capping.
Our Solution
We re-engineered the chemistry of HP45-compatible inks to defy the traditional trade-off between drying time and nozzle stability. Our formulation focuses on advanced molecular engineering to manage evaporation at the nozzle interface:
- Extreme Opening Time (Decap): Through a proprietary balance of high-performance solvents and humectants, we extended the opening time from minutes to days. Our ink remains fluid and ready to fire even after being exposed to open air for 168 hours (one week).
- Zero-Capping Reliability: Our formula prevents the formation of a solid “crust” or “plug” over the nozzles, which is the typical cause of failure in uncapped heads. This ensures an immediate, crisp restart in any environmental condition.
The Result
- Maximum Operational Efficiency: Immediate “Monday morning” restarts as if the machine had never stopped, eliminating the need for operator intervention.
- Waste Elimination: No more partial or unreadable codes on the first items of the production run after a shutdown.
